About the Club and it's Activities

General Information

Based in the North West of England, the Club has been around in one guise or another for many years now.  It was originally part of the ' Wigan Model Power Boat Club' who sailed at the Three Sisters.  The scale section of the club moved up to Haigh Hall were they became the 'Haigh Hall Scale Model Boat Club'.  The Club members of that time put a lot of time and effort into developing the pond and surrounding area.  Sadly, in the early 'nineties' the Club had to part company with Haigh Hall and search for a new water.  The Club is now known as the North West Scale Model Boat Club.

The Club's present pond, which is situated between Chorley and Bolton, in Lancashire, is on lease from North West Water who have been very supportive towards the Club and it's activities.  Although the scenery is not as idyllic as that of Haigh Hall the pond is much better when it comes to sailing.

The Club has an active membership with members building both static and fully R/C models.  Some of our members have been involved with modelling for twenty years or more.  The number of current members is about 40.

North West Scale Model Boat Club has always prided itself on giving something back to the community and it actively supports many local venues and fund-raising events.  Each year the Club organises a display of model boats at a variety of these events.

The Club members sail regularly on a Sunday afternoon and have monthly meetings on the third Monday of each month.  These meetings take place at the Balcarres Arms, Haigh Road, Haigh, Wigan, Lancs and start at 7.45PM.  If you are interested in joining the Club or just coming along for a visit please feel free.  For further information on how to find us please see the next page.
